Why this exists

"I moved to Rome at 44. I left a 21-year career, a comfortable life, and a version of myself I'd outgrown. Now I wake up to cobblestones."

There is something about receiving a real letter. Not a notification. Not a newsletter. A letter, something someone held, wrote, folded, and sent. Something that travelled. When it lands in your letterbox, it carries the weight of intention.

Italy is not just a destination. It is a feeling - the particular quality of afternoon light on old stone, the unhurried ritual of a morning coffee, the sense that life can be slower, more personal, more yours. You don't have to live here to feel it. You just need a small, regular reminder that it exists.

This subscription is for the dreamer who isn't quite ready to leap. Who keeps a folder of Italian apartments they'll never book. Who pauses at the word "aperitivo." Who knows, somewhere quiet inside, that they are meant for a different kind of life.

This is for them. For you. From my hands to yours.

What arrives in your envelope

Made with care. For you.

A Note From ItalyN

Roma, Italia · 41°54'N · 12°29'E · Spring Edition

Cara amica,

The jasmine is out on the Aventine Hill. I noticed it this morning on my way to the post office — that particular sweetness that only happens in May, when the whole city seems to exhale.

I've been thinking about what it means to choose a life deliberately. Not to fall into it, or drift toward it, but to actually pick it up with both hands and say: yes, this one.

"The city teaches you to slow down, whether you want to or not."

Umbria

Central Italy · Hill towns & olive groves

Umbria is Italy's only landlocked region, and something about that containment seems to have preserved it. No coastline means no mass tourism, no crowds and, for those dreaming of a slower life abroad, significantly lower property prices than Tuscany next door. Just medieval hill towns that still belong to the people who live in them, and 3rd century Etruscan walls holding up a 21st century city, completely unremarked upon by the locals who pass them every day.

Did you know?

Umbria is known as il cuore verde d'Italia - the green heart of Italy. It sits almost exactly in the geographical centre of the peninsula, and its forests and hills are so densely, deeply green that from above it looks less like a region and more like a held breath.
